Adapted from a foundational pillar in classic storytelling, The Odyssey follows the lengthy quest of the legendary King of Ithaca. Following his victory at Troy, which is depicted within the companion epic, Odysseus endures a long and perilous road home.
Legendary Obstacles and a Star-Studded Lineup
On his travels, the hero encounters numerous obstacles and legendary creatures. These include the witch-goddess Circe, who transforms men into swine, and the deceptive Sirens. Regardless of these ordeals, Odysseus vows to do whatever it takes to get back to Penelope and Telemachus in Ithaca.
The adaptation's cast is remarkably star-studded. Alongside the leading trio are Charlize Theron portraying the shrewd goddess, alongside Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Elliot Page, and Jon Bernthal.
A Story Repeatedly Told
Homer's epic has inspired many reinterpretations over the years. Examples include modern retellings and a late-90s dance production. It has even been a stage musical adaptation titled Epic: The Musical, presented as a multi-part album series.
A full-length preview has been highly anticipated since the film's announcement and a short teaser clip which was initially shown only on the big screen. That teaser subsequently found its way onto the internet soon after.
