Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, striking the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could help the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
